President Dr Irfaan Ali has committed to drilling a new well to improve access to potable water in Circuitville, Soesdyke-Linden.

Chief Executive Officer of the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), Dr Martin Pertab, related the news to residents following a meeting at the community’s Mutlipurpose building on Wednesday.

Dr Pertab said CH&PA will commence the necessary groundwork immediately to identify a suitable location for the well and advance the project.

The engagement with residents is a continuation of the Ministry of Housing–CH&PA consultations along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway in anticipation of planned housing and community development.

Dr. Pertab was joined by the Chief Executive Officer of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Mr. Ramesh Ghir.

Residents emphasised the urgent need for a reliable source of potable water, noting that the small spring currently used by the community is insufficient to meet the needs of its population of over 1,000.Other concerns raised included the regularisation of lands, improved internal roads and the development of a suitable recreational space.

Speaking on the housing sector, Dr Pertab said the government has committed to constructing 40,000 houses and clearing the backlog of housing applicants. While access to suitable land remains a challenge, he noted that the Soesdyke-Linden Highway presents significant opportunities for housing expansion.

Approximately 450 acres of land are being considered for development, with the potential to provide more than 2,000 house lots. Dr Pertab said residents of communities from Kuru Kuru to Moblissa should be positioned to benefit from the planned developments.

He emphasised that the Government’s focus extends beyond infrastructure to improving residents’ overall well-being and creating economic opportunities. He also highlighted the recently launched Social Housing Project, which caters to low-income families, and ongoing development at St. Cuthbert’s Mission.

Meanwhile, Mr. Ghir said his agency stands ready to engage residents on possible employment opportunities connected to future development. He assured residents that the matters raised would be conveyed to the relevant agencies so that appropriate interventions could be pursued.
