The Private Sector Commission (PSC) on Wednesday engaged Minister of Public Service, Government Efficiency & Implementation, Zulfikar Ally, to discuss the Guyana Development Bank and opportunities for greater collaboration between the Bank and the private sector. The engagement also provided an opportunity for the PSC to formally introduce its newly established AI & Digitization Subcommittee, which will focus on advancing collaboration on digital transformation and AI.
Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between the Guyana Development Bank and the PSC’s Business Support Desk to help startups and small businesses become investment-ready and access financing. Opportunities for businesses to form consortiums, particularly in agriculture, agro-processing, tourism, housing and other productive sectors, were also explored.
The meeting further addressed the Government’s digitisation agenda, including the expansion of digital public services, the development of an integrated digital ID system, digital payments and the modernisation of systems across key government agencies.
The PSC emphasised the importance of private-sector input into proposed AI legislation and explored opportunities to support AI adoption, research, innovation and investment in Guyana. Discussions also covered investment in data centres and digital infrastructure, as well as AI training and cybersecurity capacity-building.
The engagement underscored the importance of Government and the private sector working in tandem to build a more efficient, digitally enabled and investment-ready Guyana. The PSC will continue working through its AI & Digitization Subcommittee and other relevant committees to advance the areas discussed
