The Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) continues to support its employees and their families through its annual Bursary Programme, which recognises employees’ children who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance.
Established in 2019, the programme awards 20 bursaries annually to the highest-performing applicants. This year, more than 40 nominations were received, with the top 20 students selected.
Each recipient is eligible to receive $25,000 per academic year, provided they maintain an academic average of at least 75 per cent.
Director of Human Resources, Ms Rohmena Chung, reminded recipients that the bursary is both a reward for their achievements and an incentive to maintain academic excellence.
In remarks delivered on behalf of GPHC Chief Executive Officer, Mr Robbie Rambaran, Ms Chung congratulated the students and their parents, recognising the sacrifices and support behind their achievements.
Bursary recipient Javier Collins also shared his journey, reflecting on the loss of his NGSA teacher, Ms Sylvia Reed, and his grandmother, Mrs Ellen Collins, shortly after receiving his examination results.
Despite these losses, Collins expressed gratitude to his family, teachers and GPHC leadership for their support. Addressing his fellow recipients, he described the bursary as “fuel for our future” and encouraged them to continue working hard and honour those who supported them.
The GPHC Bursary Programme remains a meaningful investment in the children of its employees, celebrating academic excellence while encouraging the next generation to pursue their goals and contribute to their families, communities and country.
