A policeman on Wednesday night confessed to fatally shooting his Cuban national girlfriend, who had gone missing a week ago and dumping her body in a clump of bush on the East Coast of Demerara.
Based on reports, 26-year-old Dailen Paneque Gómez had left her Lot 92 Mon Repos North, East Coast Demerara, home on Thursday last to head to work at the Enmore Regional Hospital, where she was employed as a cleaner.
“Paneque Gómez was reported missing after she was last seen during the early morning hours of Thursday June 18, 2026, while reportedly on her way to work,” the GPF said in a statement on Wednesday evening.
After the missing person’s report was filed one day after the woman’s disappearance, an investigation was launched. The probe saw the involvement of detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters, who subsequently recovered Paneque Gómez’s body in a decomposed state at around 19:50h on Wednesday.
INews was told that investigations had led to the arrest of a Police Constable, with whom the woman had shared a relationship. The suspect then took detectives to the ECD location where the victim’s body was found in a clump of bushes.
“He was arrested prior to leading to investigators to the location, where he disposed of the victim’s body,” Head of CID, Deputy Commissioner of Police Wendell Blanhum related.
The Crime Chief also confirmed that the suspect has confessed how he killed the woman before dumping her body.
In fact, this publication understands that the cop confessed that he was in possession of an unlicensed firearm which he used to execute the crime. He reportedly told detectives that he placed a teddy bear against the woman’s head before discharging a round.
The Police Constable remains in custody and is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
