Clothes vendor remanded to prison for allegedly selling marijuana at Exhibition Site

[www.inewsguyana.com]Twenty – eight – year – old clothes vendor Candacy Brown of Agricola, East Bank Demerara appeared before Fabayo Azore, charged with trafficking narcotics.

The woman pleaded not guilty to the offence. According to the allegation, on October 5 at the Sophia Exhibition Centre, Brown had 20 grams of cannabis in her possession for the purpose of trafficking.

According to the police prosecutor; at about 22:00 hours on the day of the incident the accused was seen by a group of plain clothes police officers dealing with different persons and collecting money. The prosecutor said the officers confronted the woman, who was standing next to the stage and conducted a search during which 20 bags that contained leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis was found.

Attorney – at – law Paul Fung – A – Fat represented the accused and while making application for bail, told the court that the illegal substance were found some 15 feet away from the accused and that his client was collecting money for other transactions and not for selling the marijuana.

The Magistrate refused bail and remanded Brown to prison until October 23. [Royan Abrams]
