The Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) reminds all Contractors that the open burning of vegetation, construction waste and other waste materials is strictly prohibited at all project sites.
Contractors must immediately cease and desist from all open burning and extinguish any existing fires. Prohibited activities include, but not limited to, the burning of:
Vegetation from land-clearing and site-preparation activities;
Discarded formwork and timber;
Construction debris and packaging materials; and
Any other construction-related waste.
Open and unregulated burning of waste is prohibited under the Environmental Protection Act, Cap. 20:05 of the Laws of Guyana. Breaches may result in fines, imprisonment and other applicable legal sanctions.
All construction waste must be regularly collected, removed and disposed of in accordance with CH&PA’s Waste Management Plan (WMP) and the requirements of the respective Project Contract.
Any contractor found in breach of this directive will be subject to the applicable contractual penalties enforced by CH&PA.
