A 30-year-old man, Toralpher Simon Harry, was stabbed to death in the wee hours of today during a scuffle with a Venezuelan national, whom police say is currently on the run.
The incident occurred at about 03:00h on the Vreed-en-Hoop public road in the vicinity of Bright Star Chinese Restaurant in Region Three.
Harry, a porter attached to Guyana Water Inc. (GWI) and resident of Lot 24 Best Village (Foreshore), West Coast Demerara, was with a friend, Naipaul Sukhdeo, at the time of the incident.
Sukhdeo told investigators that he and Harry were heading home from a Car and Bike Show at the Leonora National Stadium at about 02:30 hours this morning when they stopped at a hotdog stall on the Vreed-en-Hoop public to make a purchase.
He went on to say that whilst ordering the hotdogs, Harry and an unknown Venezuelan National engaged in an argument, and thereafter they began to scuffle. While scuffling, both parties ended up at the Southern side of the road in the vicinity of Dalga Luck Chinese Restaurant, where the suspect was seen armed with a knife.
According to Sukhdeo, Harry then took off his belt, where he tried to fight off the Venezuelan national, and in doing so, he ran over to the Northern side of the roadway, where blood was seen pouring down from his neck and shortly after, he collapsed in front of a nearby yard.
The suspect then joined a minibus which was parked near the hotdog stand and made good his escape in an eastern direction towards the Vreed-en-Hoop junction.
Sukhdeo further mentioned that upon seeing this, he went towards his friend, where he observed that there was a stab wound to his neck. Harry was then rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty.
The scene was processed and photographed, where a knife without a handle, with what appeared to be suspected bloodstain and a brown belt were recovered from the scene.
The area was canvassed for CCTV cameras, and several were seen within close proximity of the incident.
Harry’s body of the deceased was examined, and one suspected stab wound was seen on the left side of his neck. The body is at the Ezekiel Funeral Home awaiting a Post Mortem Examination.
Meanwhile, Police are yet to apprehend the suspect.
