The Private Sector Commission (PSC) on Tuesday met with representatives of Cross Boundary Advisory, Mr. Jamie McInerney and Mr. Alfonso Pereira Calvo, to discuss investment opportunities and strategic infrastructure development in Guyana.

A key area of focus was the proposed deep-water port project in New Amsterdam, involving Bechtel and CGX/NNE, in partnership with the Ministry of Public Works. Discussions explored the port’s potential demand profile, including cargo flows to Guyana and regional connections through Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, and Barbados, as well as opportunities for capital raising and investment advisory support.

PSC Chairman Capt. Gerald Gouveia Jr. highlighted the strategic importance of the Road to Lethem and the role of improved connectivity, alongside deep-water port infrastructure, in expanding Guyana’s access to regional markets. He underscored the potential to connect local production and logistics to the wider CARICOM food market, valued at approximately US$1.5 billion.

The discussions also examined land-use planning around the proposed port, including the potential for shore bases, data centres and other supporting infrastructure, as well as strategies to facilitate investment, address information asymmetries and ensure investors have access to the information needed to assess opportunities and make informed decisions.

The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration between the private sector and investment partners, advance strategic infrastructure development, and position Guyana to capitalise on emerging regional and international trade opportunities.
