Miner remanded for marijuana possession

[www.inewsguyana.com]Dellon Hutson, 38, a miner of Lot 36 Hadfield Street, charged with drug trafficking was remanded to prison by Magistrate Fabayo Azore on Monday, February 3.

Hutson pleaded not guilty to the offense before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry. It is alleged that on January 28 at Georgetown, he had 58 grammes of marijuana. He was refused bail and the case was transferred before Magistrate Azore.

Police Prosecutor, Adduni Inniss told the Court that on the day in question at around 10:00 hrs ranks from the Narcotics Branch acting on information, which was led by Deputy Superintendent Lord went to the home of the defendant in search of narcotics.

The Prosecutor added that Hutson was confronted by an Inspector after he was seen in his yard with a bag. It is alleged that he drew a scissors from the bag and the rank became fearful and discharged a single shot towards Hutson, which hit him in his left leg.

As a result, the defendant dropped the bag and ran. A search of the said bag unearthed the marijuana. According to the Prosecutor, the defendant later turned himself over in the company of his lawyer at the Narcotics Branch at Eve Leary. Attorney – at – law, Glenn Hanoman represented Hutson.
