Police are investigating an alleged Robbery Under Arms which occurred today, Thursday August 13, 2026 about 03:00hrs at 14 Miles, Issano Landing, Middle Mazaruni River, committed on a 30-year-old gold miner of St. Ignatius Village, Central Rupununi.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was at a shop in the area when he was approached by two males, ages 27 and 49, both gold miners of Craig, East Bank Demerara and West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, respectively.

During the incident, one of the suspects was reportedly armed with a handgun and several rounds were discharged. The victim was allegedly assaulted and relieved of his wallet containing approximately GY$130,000, after which the suspects escaped on a motorcycle.

The victim was subsequently found injured and taken to the Mahdia Regional Hospital, where he was admitted. His condition is regarded as serious but stable.

Acting on information received, Police subsequently apprehended the two suspects at 14 Miles Backdam.

Further investigations led ranks to another location in the area, where a Glock pistol, one magazine and three live rounds of ammunition were recovered. A 32-year-old gold miner of Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara, was subsequently arrested in connection with the discovery.

The firearm, magazine and ammunition were lodged pending examination.

The three suspects remain in Police custody as investigations continue.
