A 65-year-old pensioner of Johanna Cecilia, Essequibo Coast, has been charged with the rape of a child under 16 years. Krishn Mohan Persaud, also known as “Uncle Mike,” appeared at the Charity Magistrate’s Court on Monday where the charge was read to him before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabiar.
Persaud was charged under Section 10(3) of the Sexual Offences Act, Chapter 8:03, in relation to an alleged offence committed against a female juvenile between May 14, 2025, and July 29, 2026. As the charge is indictable, Persaud was not required to enter a plea.
The court granted him bail in the sum of $1 million, with conditions that he report to the Suddie Police Station on the first and third Friday of each month. He was also ordered to remain at least 100 feet away from the alleged victim and have no contact with her. The case was adjourned to September 24.
