[www.inewsguyana.com] – Employees of the Guyana Geology & Mines Commission (GGMC) protested, today, November 17  outside their Brickdam office, Georgetown, demanding a 35% increase in wages & salary.

The protest commenced earlier and saw all workers from the office except Managers taking to the street to make their demands known.

The employees were heard chanting: “Ah fed up of the samething ova and ova; no money, no work.”

iNews understands that the decision to go on strike action was made after management failed to meet the union’s ultimatum of the increase or industrial action.DSCN9699

More than likely, the workers will not return to work today, however, it is unclear if they will resume duties tomorrow. This will be based on the outcome of a meeting between Management and the Union.

iNews also understands that the issue is being addressed by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. [Tracey Khan – Drakes]
