Police in Regional Division #3 (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) are investigating an alleged Robbery Under Arms committed on Friday, August 28, 2026, at about 18:20h at a hardware store located on the La Grange Public Road, West Bank Demerara.
A 29-year-old Chinese national and businessman reported that five masked male suspects, four of whom were allegedly armed with what appeared to be firearms, entered the premises and stole approximately $23 million in cash.
Initial investigations revealed that the suspects gained entry by climbing over the southern fence from the direction of the Demerara River. They allegedly entered the building, held three Chinese nationals hostage, and removed the cash, which was kept under a bed.
The suspects, it is reported, subsequently escaped through the southern section of a back fence.
CCTV footage was reviewed, and several persons were questioned.
Investigations are ongoing.
