With schools across Guyana set to reopen their doors to students on Monday, Minister of Education Sonia Parag is continuing inspections of educational institutions to ensure that facilities are prepared to safely and efficiently welcome students and teachers for the new academic year.
As part of the ongoing inspections, Minister Parag visited schools along Woolford Avenue, where infrastructural works, including drainage improvements, are currently being undertaken.
Although the avenue remains closed to facilitate the works, the minister has been assured that access to the schools will not be disrupted when the new school term begins, allowing students, parents and teachers to reach the institutions without difficulty.
Minister Parag has also tasked engineers from the Ministry of Education with working closely with their counterparts from the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development to monitor the situation and address any issues that could affect access to the schools.
The collaboration between the two ministries also highlights the importance of inter-agency coordination in maintaining the infrastructure surrounding educational facilities.
The inspections form part of broader preparations to ensure that the country’s schools are ready not only in terms of infrastructure, but also in creating an environment conducive to learning from the first day of the new academic year.
The continued inspections therefore serve as both a readiness exercise and a proactive approach to identifying potential challenges before they affect students and teachers.
