A 19-year-old male of Sheet Anchor Village, East Canje, Berbice, is currently hospitalised after he was reportedly assaulted by three of his cousins and subsequently collapsed.
The incident occurred on Friday, August 28, 2026, at approximately 22:00h at Sheet Anchor Village, East Canje in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).
Police say initial investigations disclosed that the victim was in the company of a 27-year-old female when he became involved in a misunderstanding with three of his male cousins, two 19-year-olds and an 18-year-old.
The disagreement reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation, during which the parties allegedly armed themselves with cutlasses and assaulted each other.
The 19-year-old victim was subsequently pulled away from the confrontation by the 27-year-old woman. Approximately five minutes later, he collapsed and lost consciousness.
He was rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he was admitted in an unconscious state. He remains under medical observation and is awaiting the results of a CT scan.
No visible wounds were observed on the exposed parts of his body, police say.
Meanwhile, two of the cousins involved in the brawl, ages 19 and 18, are presently in custody at the Central Police Station and are assisting with the investigation.
Investigations into this matter are ongoing.
