The Guyana Police Force’s Traffic Headquarters today conducted a muster, inspection and instruction class as part of its preparations for the reopening of schools on Monday and several major upcoming national events.
The exercise brought together ranks attached to Traffic Headquarters for a comprehensive briefing on their duties and responsibilities, with particular emphasis on maintaining road safety, effectively managing traffic congestion and ensuring the safe and orderly movement of motorists, pedestrians and other road users.
With the new school term commencing on Monday, ranks were reminded that increased traffic is anticipated along the country’s major roadways, particularly during the morning and afternoon peak periods. They were instructed to remain alert, professional and proactive while performing duties around schools, major intersections, pedestrian crossings and other high-traffic areas.
Special attention was also placed on upcoming events and activities that will require enhanced traffic management and an increased police presence. These include the Guyana leg of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Amerindian Heritage Month celebrations, and the upcoming State Visit to Guyana by His Majesty King Charles III.
Ranks were briefed on the importance of proper planning, coordination and execution of traffic arrangements for these activities, while ensuring minimal disruption to the travelling public.
As part of today’s exercise, vehicles and motorcycles assigned to Traffic Headquarters were inspected to ensure their roadworthiness and operational readiness. Inspector Raghubir conducted the inspection.
Ranks were also inspected to ensure that their uniforms, appearance and general deportment were consistent with the high standards of discipline and professionalism expected of members of the Guyana Police Force.
Present during the exercise were Inspector Trotz, Inspector Raghubir, Woman Inspector Morris, Sergeant Ingraham and other ranks of Traffic Headquarters. The parade was led by Inspector Whyte.
Today’s muster, inspection and instruction class forms part of Traffic Headquarters’ continued efforts to strengthen operational preparedness and ensure that ranks, vehicles and other resources are ready to meet the increased demands expected with the reopening of schools and the hosting of several major events in the coming weeks and months.
Traffic Headquarters is also reminding motorists and other road users to exercise patience and caution, obey all traffic laws and directions given by ranks, and make the necessary adjustments to their travel schedules as schools reopen on Monday.
Parents and guardians transporting children to and from school are particularly encouraged to avoid unnecessary stopping or parking that could obstruct traffic, and to exercise additional care around schools, pedestrian crossings and areas where children are likely to be present.
The Guyana Police Force remains committed to working with all road users to maintain safety and order on the country’s roadways.
