Police in Regional Division #2 (Pomeroon-Supenaam) have arrested a 45-year-old farmer of Bounty Hall, Essequibo Coast, after he was found in possession of a 12-gauge single-barrel shotgun.

The discovery was made on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at about 13:45 hours, during a mobile patrol conducted at Lima Backdam, Essequibo Coast.

Preliminary investigations revealed that while on patrol in the area, the ranks heard two loud explosions suspected to be gunshots.

As a result, they stopped and observed a male walking out of a rice field with a suspected 12-gauge single-barreled shotgun in his right hand and two ducks in his left hand.

The ranks approached the male, who was asked whether he was licensed to hunt and whether he was a licensed firearm holder, to which he replied in the negative.

The suspect was arrested and escorted to the Anna Regina Police Station along with the suspected firearm, which was lodged.

The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
