The new People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) administration will remove taxes and duties on all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and certain boat engines for residents of hinterland and riverine areas.

This was announced today by President Dr Irfaan Ali during a public meeting at Moruca, Region One. For the boat engines, the duty-free condition will be applied for up to 150hp.

Meanwhile, he said every village in the region which is on the riverfront will get a proper landing facility.

Additionally, every village will soon benefit from 24-hour electricity supply, he said.

The President said the government will invest in concrete roads for every community and the residents will get the tools so they will build the infrastructure themselves, so the money will remain among the locals.

He also announced a special land titling programme to ensure every community has their issues ironed out.

The President further revealed that the government has already paid for a second ferry to ply the route to Region One, to improve transportation services for residents.

In three months, residents will also benefit from a cargo boat that will take their goods from Moruca to Charity.

The government will also co-invest with young people to develop tourism in the region. According to President Ali, the government will help in marketing the region for tourism and make it easier to persons to visit.

Additional support will come for farmers through agro-processing hubs and cold storage facilities. The President said the government will also invest in a bottling plant so farmers can package coconut water for export.

President Ali also announced a special home improvement subsidy for residents.

The President also announced better access to banking services including the introduction of ATMs in the region.
