Police are investigating a fatal accident which occurred on Monday September 28, 2026 about 18:20hrs on the 35 KM Puruni Trail, Cuyuni-Mazaruni, Region 7, involving motor car #PAR 6448, driven by Anthony Allen, 21, of Mongrippa Hill, Bartica and an 18-year-old gold miner of Potaro Road, Bartica, who was an occupant of the vehicle.
Initial enquiries revealed that motor car #PAR 6448 was proceeding east along the Puruni Trail and was negotiating a right bend when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which toppled several times before coming to rest in a ditch on the northern side of the trail.
Allen and the 18-year-old occupant were removed from the vehicle by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Bartica Regional Hospital, where Allen was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty.
The 18-year-old was treated for injuries and admitted to the hospital. His condition is regarded as stable.
Allen’s body is presently at the Bartica Regional Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing.
