23-Y-O labourer chopped to death at Friendship

Police are investigating an alleged murder which occurred on Monday September 28, 2026 about 23:40hrs at Friendship Village, Corentyne, Berbice, resulting in the death of Chittesh Sukhai, called ‘Rohan’ and ‘Marsho’, a 23-year-old labourer of the said village.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Sukhai was involved in an argument with a female relative, following which several males reportedly arrived at the location armed with cutlasses.

Sukhai was allegedly chopped several times about his body, after which he ran from the location and subsequently collapsed in a nearby yard.

He was taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment. His body was subsequently taken to Ramoo’s Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Two cutlasses suspected to have been used during the incident were recovered in the vicinity.

Police subsequently apprehended two males, ages 27 and 23, of Friendship and Limlair Villages, Corentyne, Berbice, respectively, in connection with the incident.

Both suspects remain in Police custody as investigations continue.
