Police in Regional Division # 9 are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of an air rifle, pellets and a telescope, which were found on Thursday May 7, 2026 about 07:40hrs, at the Customs Department Complex, Lethem, Central Rupununi.
Enquiries revealed that a 41-year-old male Brazilian national and geologist of Para State, Brazil, presented himself at the Customs Department Complex, Lethem, where he declared several items, including one Outlander Rossi air rifle, pellets and a telescope.
The man was unable to produce the required permit and was subsequently detained, along with the items which were examined and lodged pending further investigations.
The Brazilian national remains in police custody assisting with investigations.
Investigations are ongoing.
