Police in Regional Division 4 ‘B’ are investigating an alleged Robbery Under Arms which occurred on Saturday February 28, 2026, about 19:40hrs at Flamboyant Street, Eccles Industrial Site, East Bank Demerara, committed on a 22-year-old Venezuelan labourer of Eccles Industrial Site.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had just left a supermarket in the area and was walking east along Flamboyant Street when he was approached by two identifiable males on a motorcycle. The pillion rider dismounted and confronted the victim, after which a scuffle ensued.
During the confrontation, the pillion rider allegedly discharged a firearm, causing the victim to receive injuries to his left leg. The suspects then relieved him of one cellular phone and $30,000 Guyana currency before fleeing west along the roadway on the motorcycle.
Emergency Medical Technicians were summoned and the injured man was transported to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where he is receiving medical attention. His condition is listed as stable.
One 9mm spent shell was recovered and lodged. CCTV cameras were observed in the area and will be reviewed as part of the investigation.
Investigations are ongoing.
