Police are investigating a fatal accident which occurred on Sunday March 1, 2026, about 19:18hrs on Lusignan Public Road, East Coast Demerara, involving Motor Car PAK 2521 driven by a 28-year-old taxi driver of Buxton, East Coast Demerara and pedestrian Arvindo Mahaballi, 43, of Lusignan, East Coast Demerara (deceased).

Initial enquiries revealed that the motorcar was proceeding west along the northern driving lane of the southern carriageway of the Lusignan Public Road when a collision occurred with the pedestrian, who was reportedly crossing the roadway at the time.

As a result of the collision, the pedestrian sustained injuries about his body and was pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor on duty attached to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.

The body was escorted to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

A breathalyser test conducted on the driver recorded readings of 0.032% and 0.029% BAC.

The vehicle has been lodged pending examination and the driver is presently in police custody assisting with investigations.

Investigations are ongoing.
