Police are investigating a fatal incident which occurred on Saturday, 04th October 2025, at about 17:30 hours on the South Dakota circuit (Race Track) at Timehri, East Bank Demerara, involving a Honda motor racing car owned and driven by Andre Rochford, a 49-year-old resident of Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, and a motorcycle, owned and driven by Richard La Cuise, a 58-year-old from Timehri South, Dakota Race Track Area, East Bank Demerara.
Enquiries disclosed that Andre Rochford was ‘testing’ the race car around the track, when he negotiated a turn and into a straight section, and observed a motorcycle on the left side of the track. The motorcyclist reportedly began swerving in and out of the path of the car, resulting in a collision. As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist fell off the motorcycle onto the surface of the track and received injuries to his body. He was picked up in a conscious condition by the driver and taken to the Guyana Defence Force Medical Centre, where he was seen and examined by a Medic on duty, who rendered treatment, and later transferred him by ambulance to the New Diamond Regional Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries at 20:15 hours on 2025-10-04, whilst receiving treatment.
His body was then escorted by the Police to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The driver of the motor car was arrested, and a breath alcohol test was conducted on him; the readings revealed no trace of alcohol in his breath. He is presently at the Madewini Police Outpost assisting with the investigation.
