The Ministry of Education has introduced fortnightly quizzes for Grade 6 students as part of efforts to support preparation for the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA).
The Ministry announced the initiative on Sunday, stating that the quizzes will cover the four core subject areas and will be made available electronically to primary schools across Guyana. The quizzes are being provided through the National Centre for Educational Resource Development (NCERD) and the Primary Education Sector, and will be aligned with the National Learning Outcomes (NLOs).
According to a memorandum issued to all primary schools through the Regional Education Officers (REOs) in Regions One to 10 and the Principal Education Officer, the quizzes will be distributed electronically to schools on a fortnightly basis.
They will also be available through the Ministry’s online NGSA Quiz Portal.

Grade 6 teachers have been instructed to ensure that all students complete each quiz within seven days of it being issued. Following completion, teachers are required to mark the quizzes and provide appropriate feedback to students and their parents or guardians. The Ministry said the initiative is intended to provide a structured mechanism for students to engage with the core subject areas while allowing teachers and parents to monitor students’ progress.
The memorandum, signed by Chief Education Officer (CEO) Saddam Hussain, was circulated to primary schools for their attention and necessary action. The four core subject areas covered by the Grade 6 quizzes form part of the academic preparation leading up to the NGSA.
