Man charged with assaulting fiancé, damaging cell phone

Court[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 19 – year – old labourer charged with damage to property and assaulting his fiancée made his appearance before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on Wednesday, May 20.

Robert McKenzie of Lot 194 ‘D’ Grove Squatting Area, East Bank Demerara pleaded guilty to the first charge, which alleged that on May 16 at North Road Bourda, Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously damaged an Alcatel cellular phone valued $13,000, property of Holly Anderson.

He pleaded not guilty to the second charge which stated that on the same day, he unlawfully assaulted Anderson, so as to cause her actual bodily harm.

Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru did not opposed bail in relation to the assault charge.

McKenzie was fined $10,000 for the damage to property charge and was also bonded to keep the peace and placed on self bail for the assault charge. He will return to court on May 22, before city Magistrate Alex Moore for commencement of trial.
