“Crop insurance is a lifeline for us” – Essequibo rice farmer

Gaitree Bharrat, a rice farmer from Essequibo, says the recently introduced crop insurance by the People’s Progressive Party/Civic Government is a life line for farmers across the country.

Speaking at the PPP’s massive rally at Anna Regina in Region Two today, Bharrat expressed gratitude to the Dr Irfaan Ali-government for its bold and forward thinking had has brough relief to farmers in combatting challenges like unpredictable weather patters and rise in input costs.

“The introduction of crop insurance from our Government of Guyana will be a lifetime for us when flood or drought hit us,” she declared.

According to Bharrat, “We now have a cushion that help us cover our losses and go forward.” It’s a relief to know we’re not alone when disaster strikes.”

The rice farmer added that this insurance is a security for the future of farmers across GUyana.

She further lauded the PPP Administration for its interventions in increasing paddy prices for farmers, as well as subsidies to millers, so that farmers are paid in a timely manner.
