Police are investigating an alleged Robbery Under Arms which occurred on Saturday September 19, 2026 about 23:30hrs at ‘A’ Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown, during which a 38-year-old businessman was shot and robbed of three yellow metal chains valued at approximately GY$720,000.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was in his yard using his cellular phone when he was approached by two unidentified males who were reportedly wearing masks and reflective vests. One of the suspects was reportedly armed with a handgun.
The suspects allegedly confronted the businessman and attempted to relieve him of the chains he was wearing. During the confrontation, a round was discharged, striking the victim to his right leg above the knee.
The suspects subsequently relieved the victim of the three chains and made good their escape.
The victim was taken by relatives to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he is receiving medical attention. His condition is listed as stable.
Several persons were questioned. CCTV cameras were observed in the area and was reviewed as part of the investigation.
No arrests have been made. Investigations are ongoing.
