Police are investigating an alleged inflicting of grievous bodily harm committed on a 29-year-old female farmer of Wariquima Settlement, Upper Mazaruni River, on Thursday September 17, 2026 about 15:00hrs.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim and the suspect, a 30-year-old miner are in a common-law relationship and reside together.
It is alleged that the victim was at home splitting firewood with an axe when the suspect returned home and accused her of being unfaithful. An argument ensued, during which the suspect allegedly took the axe from the victim and struck her to the forehead with the base of the axe, causing her to fall to the ground unconscious.
The victim was taken to the Kamarang District Hospital, where she was examined by a doctor and admitted. She was subsequently referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital for further medical attention. Her condition is listed as stable.
The 30-year-old suspect was subsequently arrested and remains in Police custody as investigations continue.
