Convict remanded for wounding inmate

Calvin Bailey, 38, called ‘Lava’, of Wisroc Housing Scheme; Agricola, East Bank Demerara and Campbellville, Georgetown, earlier today appeared before Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and was remanded to prison where he is already serving a 15 years sentence for murder.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on November 6 2016, at the Camp Street prison, Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Dwayne King.

According to the Prosecutor, the incident occurred while the defendant is serving his sentence. He and the Virtual Complainant who is also imprisoned were involved in an altercation which resulted in Bailey stabbing the man.

The matter is set to be recalled on November 18 2016.
