Minister of Housing, Collin Croal, and Minister within the Ministry, Vanessa Benn, on Sunday visited the Yarrowkabra Homestead Project along the Soesdyke–Linden Highway, where 200 prefabricated homes are being constructed.

To date, 24 houses have already been completed, each unit, costing $6.5 million, forms part of the government’s broader effort to deliver affordable, modern housing solutions.

The Yarrowkabra Homestead Project is a major component of President Dr. Irfaan Ali’s $6 billion housing initiative, which aims to build 500 sustainable homes along the highway. The project is designed to go beyond housing, combining residential development with agricultural production and renewable energy. Shade houses and solar power systems are being introduced to support economic empowerment, with a strong focus on single mothers and women-led households.

This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to providing safe and modern housing while driving inclusive growth. The infrastructure development—including roads, water supply, and electrical networks—is also advancing to support the new community.

The first set of homes under the initiative is expected to be completed by the end of this year, marking a significant step in transforming the Soesdyke–Linden Highway into a hub of residential and economic activity.

The homes are being constructed by Duravilla Homes, employing modern building techniques and utilising a mix of local and sustainable materials to ensure durability, style, and environmental responsibility.
