A 26-year-old housewife is now nursing a gunshot wound at the Woodland’s Hospital in Georgetown after she was reportedly shot while her husband was cleaning his firearm.

According to Police ‘D’ Division Commander, Leslie James, the incident occurred around noon yesterday at the couple’s home in Schoonord, on the West Bank of Demerara.

Reports indicate that the young lady, Ovita Jagmohan was lying on a bed in the couple’s room while her husband, Deonarine Jagmohan, who is a licensed firearm holder, was allegedly cleaning his gun.

The gun ‘accidentally’ fired off one shot, in the woman’s direction hitting her to the left jaw bone.

She was rushed to the medical facility where she is presently receiving treatment.

Her husband has since been apprehended and is assisting the police with investigations.
