Police in Regional Division #3 are investigating an alleged attempted robbery under arms committed on a 16-year-old trainee mechanic at about 11:30 hrs on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at La Grange Old Road, West Bank Demerara.

Preliminary investigations revealed that during August 2026, the teen advertised his motorcycle for sale on Facebook Marketplace. A 20-year-old man subsequently contacted him, inspected the motorcycle and indicated that he would return on September 1 to complete the purchase.

On the day in question, the suspect allegedly pointed what appeared to be a handgun at the teen and demanded his motorcycle keys and cellular phone. The teen managed to resist and escape before alerting nearby residents.

The suspect attempted to flee but was pursued and apprehended. The object used during the alleged incident was recovered and later confirmed to be a toy gun.

The suspect remains in Police custody as investigations continue.
