The Government has moved to strengthen electricity generation in Kwakwani, Region Ten, with the addition of a new 800 kVA generator, Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d), Mark Phillips, announced today.

The Prime Minister made the announcement during the Government of Guyana Cabinet Outreach at Independence Square, Kwakwani.

Kwakwani’s current generation capacity stands at 2.3 MVA. With the addition of the new generator, which is expected to become operational by the middle of next week, capacity will increase to 3.1 MVA.
Prime Minister Phillips said the intervention is intended to further strengthen the reliability of electricity supply in the community, where demand has recently increased.

“The 800 kVA generator will ensure that we have 24 hours electricity in Kwakwani.”

A further 1.0 MW generator is expected to be added by January 2027, providing additional generation capacity to support the community’s continued growth and development.

The Prime Minister said the Cabinet Outreach is aimed at taking the Government directly to communities, allowing residents to raise their concerns and identify priorities for future development.
“We live in an interesting time today in Guyana. We are the fastest-growing economy in the world, and definitely in this hemisphere… But we don’t just want to be the fastest-growing economy; we want to ensure that the people in this fastest-growing economy benefit from all the resources and the revenue that is garnered through the economic activities of this country known as Guyana.”

He further added, “We, as a Government, the People’s Progressive Party/Civic Government, will always put the people of Guyana first, and that goes for every community, every region throughout the length and breadth of Guyana.”

Prime Minister Phillips is leading engagements in Kwakwani and Ituni today as part of the wider Cabinet Outreach across Region Ten.
