Prime Minister Mark Phillips urged residents of Moruca, Region One (Barima-Waini) to vote for five more years of development.

“There’s a reason why we have to vote for PPP/C…if you want development in Guyana, you have to vote PPP/C…if you want education for your children, vote PPP/C,” the PM said.

He was at the time speaking during a People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) public meeting in the community.

The Prime Minister emphasised that the PPP/C administration has worked assiduously over the years to improve the lives of residents in the hinterland.

“There’s no division in development,” he said, noting that the PPP/C has already begun to bridge all the divides in the hinterland and the coast.

He pointed to how residents in the hinterland have greater access to education and healthcare, because of the vision and programmes implemented by the PPP/C.

He also spoke about improvements in Internet connectivity for hinterland villages, noting that very soon, every indigenous community will be able to have access to the worldwide web.

“The last government say that they will connect you to the Internet,” Phillips reminded, noting that they never fulfilled that promise.

Speaking about the PPP/C’s rivals, the PM encouraged residents to grill them on their plans for the country and they would realise, the other political aspirants have none.

“Tell them you ain’t want hear “very soon and shortly”,” Phillips said.

He noted that Guyana needs ‘responsible and respectable’ leaders, not individuals who evade taxes and are sanctioned by the United States.

According to PM Phillips, “don’t let nobody come and confuse your mind”. He emphasised that the only party with a track record f delivery of its promises and bringing real change and benefits to every citizen, regardless of their race or religion, is the PPP/C.
