Tuschen miner found dead in Puruni River

Police in Regional Division #7, on Monday, August 18, 2025 recovered the body of a deceased male from the Puruni River (approximately two minutes from the landing).

The dead man has been identified as 27-year-old Christopher Stephens, a miner of Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo.

Acting on information received, Police ranks visited the area, where, at about 06:20hrs the body of the deceased was located face down in the river. The body was clad in a black short-sleeve jersey, orange boxers, and short blue pants, with a suspected chop wound to the forehead.

The man’s body was positively identified by his sister, 25-year-old Catianna Stephens of Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo.
