Tough love?…Man accused of assaulting wife claims he would usually “play fight” with her

Jerome Springer, 48, of Maria’s Lodge, Essequibo Coast was today taken before the court on a charge of slapping his wife.

Springer was charged for unlawfully assaulting Verna Springer when he appeared before Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on March 20, 2016, he unlawfully slapped, choked and took a piece of wood and hit his wife during a fight.

The father of two pleaded not guilty to the charge. He told the court that he would usually “play fight” with his wife and denied the allegations. He was granted $20,000 bail.

The case will continue on April 15.
