‘Habitual drinker’ lands in court for assaulting wife…promises he would never do it gain

A husband and wife of Perservance Estate, Essequibo Coast ended up at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court today after a heated argument ended in assault.

Thirty-six-year-old Ramkarran Persaud was charged for unlawfully assaulting his wife Jessica Narine on March, 28, 2016.

In a packed courtroom earlier today before Magistrate Sunil Scarce, Persaud begged his wife for forgiveness and told her he would not behave in such manner again.

The Police are contending that on March 28, 2016 at Perservance Village, he unlawfully assaulted Jessica Narine. It is alleged that he went to the backdam and upon returning,  an argument ensued between the couple which resulted in him taking an iron and hit her. He admitted to the offence and apologised profusely.

The wife, who was also in court, said that Persaud is a habitual drinker who often abuses her. She however begged the magistrate to restrict him from entering her mother’s house and to warn him.

After listening to both parties, Magistrate Scare told Persaud that no woman will take abuse and it is unlawful to hit any woman. He placed him on a bond to keep the peace for one year, and cautioned him should he breach the conditions of the bond he will be jailed.
