After enduring hardships and failed promises under the previous APNU+AFC Coalition regime, Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips on today urged citizens of Region Five to once again reject the opposition parties.

Phillips, who is seeking re-election for a second term in office, was at the time addressing thousands of supporters at the People’s Progressive Party/Civic Elections Rally at Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice.

He recalled that during the Coalition’s term in office 2015 to 2020, Guyanese were burdened with the over 200 taxes imposed and increased fees for land rental. “Things were terrible. Things got very bad right here in Region 5.”

According to the Prime Minister, the PPP/C went to the polls in 2020 with a manifesto and after getting into office, they started to deliver on those promises made.

“One of first things that we did, we removed all those taxes and we removed all those fees… we reduced it to what you were paying before… This is the time we must say no more, not again to the APNU; no more, not again to the AFC… They make promises to you and when they get into office, they screw you…that is what they did to you and every body in Guyana,” the PM declared.

Phillips reminded that the Coalition promised to deliver increased salary for public servants in the first 100 days but did it for themselves instead. Now, that the same parties are coming to the electorate with more promises, the Prime Minister urged Guyanese not to be deceived and allow the same parties that failed to deliver on their promises to trick them again.

“The only voting you doing for them is to vote them out and you already did that in 2020… they must not return… [You had] five years of economic development…five years of shared prosperity and we need to have five more years of that. And only Dr Irfaan Ali and the PPP/C can give us that,” PM Phillips stressed.
