Police are investigating a fatal accident which occurred on Thursday October 22, 2026, about 21:10hrs on Groenveldt Public Road, West Coast Demerara, involving motor car #PNN 585, driven by a 29-year-old resident of Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara and pedestrian Bharrat Bisnauth, a 56-year-old resident of Stewartville, West Coast Demerara.
Initial enquiries revealed that motor car #PNN 585 was proceeding west along the southern side of Groenveldt Public Road, allegedly at a fast rate of speed, when the front portion of the motor car struck the pedestrian, who was crossing the road from north to south.
As a result of the collision, Bharrat Bisnauth sustained injuries to his head and about his body. He was picked up in an unconscious condition and transported to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where he died while receiving medical treatment.
The body is presently at Ezekiel Funeral Parlour Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
A breathalyser test conducted on the driver returned a reading of 0.024%.
CCTV cameras were identified in the vicinity and footage was obtained as part of the ongoing investigation.
Investigations are ongoing.
