A 42-year-old man of Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), who was stabbed, attempted to flee the scene in a motorcar, but crashed into a canal, where he was later pronounced dead.
The victim has been identified as Oswin Lawson.
Police said Lawson was driving motorcar HD 8644 along the Edinburgh Public Road, East Bank Berbice (EBB) when he collided with a roadside stall before plunging into a canal, where the vehicle became submerged.
The man was removed from the motorcar in an unconscious condition by public-spirited citizens and taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he was pronounced him dead on arrival.
Several stab wounds were seen on the victim’s body.
INews understands that Lawson had been stabbed and was attempting to flee the scene in his motorcar when the accident occurred.
A 21-year-old man, who reportedly committed the stabbing, was arrested.
