Proper management and accountability of military stores are essential to responsible resource use and effective support for military operations. Sixteen ranks of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) have begun the 12-week Junior All Arms Ordnance Course to
build the technical competence needed to manage military stores in line with established regulations.
Conducted by the GDF Training Corps, the course covers Government Store Regulations, Material Regulations, storekeeping procedures, accounting for rations, petroleum products and other military stores, introductory bookkeeping, stores documentation, and environmental health and sanitation.
Addressing participants at the course opening, Officer Commanding Technical Division Lieutenant Commander Derrick Johnson emphasised the link between logistics and operational effectiveness.
“The efficiency of our logistics directly influences our ability to accomplish the mission and the mandate of our respective units,” he stated.
Lieutenant Commander Johnson urged participants to approach the course with discipline and diligence and apply the knowledge and skills acquired to their assigned responsibilities.
“Let your performance on this course, and your conduct afterwards, demonstrate a commitment to not only your personal development but betterment of the Force,” he urged.
The knowledge and skills acquired will equip participants to manage military stores in accordance with established procedures and maintain accurate records. Their effective application will support accountability and the responsible use of resources entrusted to the GDF.
