Sophia teen remanded on cybercrime, sexual offences charges

Jeremiah James, a 19-year-old labourer from Sophia, Greater Georgetown, was remanded to prison after appearing at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court on multiple cybercrime and sexual offence charges involving a minor.

Arrested on September 28, he was charged with possessing and procuring child pornography, using a computer to lure a child, and causing a child under 16 to watch a sexual act.

James pleaded guilty to two charges – possession of child pornography and causing a child to watch a sexual act – but denied the others.

Senior Magistrate Clive Nurse remanded him, and the case was adjourned to October 16, 2025.
