A roundabout will soon be constructed at the Soesdyke Junction, connecting the Good Success to Timehri road project with the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
The massive development is expected to significantly improve traffic flow for thousands of commuters using the two major road networks.
Minister of Public Works Bishop Juan Edghill made the announcement while inspecting the ongoing infrastructure projects on Tuesday.
He said, “The Soesdyke–Linden Highway and the Good Success to Timehri road project are progressing. We are at a stage where the projects will meet each other, and that is at the Soesdyke Junction, where we are installing a roundabout.”
The roundabout forms part of the government’s efforts to enhance connectivity between the two road networks while easing congestion at the busy junction.
Minister Edghill stated that contractors Namalco and GuyAmerica have been instructed to move swiftly with the installation of street lighting along the corridor.
While residents and motorists have welcomed the improved road surface, concerns remain about visibility and safety at night.
“We have to proceed expeditiously with lighting…We need to improve the surface in the areas where work is not yet completed so that traffic can move smoothly,” he said.
The public works minister stressed that the government wants to see rapid progress on the remaining works to ensure commuters can fully benefit from the upgraded roadway.
The Good Success to Timehri Road and the Soesdyke-Linden Highway project is among several major infrastructure initiatives aimed at improving transportation links and supporting economic development countrywide. [DPI]
