Road, water projects to advance in Coomacka Mines – Pres. Ali

Road and water infrastructure in Coomacka Mines is set to receive further attention, with President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali announcing that another two kilometres of road will be completed before the end of this year, extending the ongoing works towards Old England.

President Ali made the announcement on Wednesday during his outreach to residents of Region 10, while also addressing the community’s longstanding water challenges.

“Recently, they have had great success at Old England, and although it will now cost a lot more money because we’ll have to build one and a half kilometres of transmission to get back here,” the president said, adding that he has directed Guyana Water Incorporated to develop the successful well and extend the supply to Coomacka Mines.

“It is non-negotiable,” President Ali said, underscoring Government’s commitment to resolving the water situation.

He also reaffirmed that the development plans outlined for Region 10 will not be withheld based on the region’s political outcome at the 2025 elections.

President Ali said the government remains committed to fulfilling its manifesto commitments and advancing development across Linden and Region 10.

Beyond infrastructure, the company resident outlined plans to address housing, social support and economic development in the region.

The head of state said the government intends to fulfil the housing needs of every applicant in Region 10.

The president said they will introduce innovative approaches to reduce construction costs and make it easier for residents to access financing to build their homes.

President Ali also highlighted plans to expand productive activity through the Guyana Development Bank, including investments in agriculture, transportation, tourism and other businesses.

He said the government wants Linden and Region 10 to become a major production hub, including through expanded poultry and swine production and the development of cold-storage facilities. [DPI]
