A 27-year-old man of First Street, Martyr’s Ville, Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara (ECD), has been charged with dangerous driving after a video showing him committing the offence circulated online.
Jaswant Murilal appeared at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Dylon Bess on Wednesday where he pleaded guilty to the offence and was fined $50,000 or 12 months’ imprisonment, if he fails to pay.
The video shows Murilal losing control of his motorcar whilst driving at a fast rate of speed along the Ogle-Eccles Highway. As a result, he crossed over the median and entered a lane of ongoing traffic, narrowly avoiding collisions with other vehicles.
