Miner remanded for marijuana possession

[www.inewsguyana.com]Twenty – year – old Kelvin Abrams, a miner charged with trafficking narcotics was today refused bail by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on January 26, at Kato Village, Mahdia, he had in his possession 236 grammes of marijuana.

Police Prosecutor, Michael Grant told the Court that ranks were on patrol duty when they saw the defendant with a haversack acting in a suspicious manner. He was stopped and searched, when the ranks yielded six transparent plastic bags containing weeds, leaves and stems suspected to be the illegal substance.

Attorney – at – Law, Marcel Bobb represented the defendant. Bail was refused and the matter was transferred to Mahdia Court for April 14.
