In its manifesto promise leading up to the 2020 General and Regional Elections, the Peoples Progressive Party (PPP) promised to deliver 20,000 scholarships within its first term in office.
To date, over 39,000 online scholarships have been granted – not only fulfilling the PPP’s commitment to the people, but surpassing it.
These revelations were made by Vice President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo and Minister of Finance and Public Service Dr Ashni Singh during the recent graduation ceremony for the Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL).
“I’m pleased to report that we have now granted, including the 2025 cohort, in excess of 39,0000 online scholarships,” Dr Singh said on Monday.
This point was emphasised the following day by the Vice President, who noted that “it’s a gratifying moment. We can go back to the people and say, we promised—and we delivered.”
“That’s 39,000 dreams empowered, 39,000 futures transformed,” Jagdeo later posted on his Facebook Page.
Another manifest promise fulfilled and surpassed by the PPP is its house lot distribution initiative. In its 2020 manifesto, the party had promised to deliver 50,000 house lots during first five years in office. To date, this promise has been fulfilled, with over 50,000 house lots distributed countrywide.
