Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill yesterday attended the launch of the Foton partnership with MACORP and Industry and Supply Guyana (ISG), at the new US$30M MACORP facility in Covent Garden.
Minister Edghill highlighted the partnership as a testimony of the growing confidence of companies in Guyana’s vast and progressive economy.
“I view this launch of Foton brand of heavy duty trucks in Guyana as another company putting their vote of confidence in the direction that Guyana is going and I see it as a vote of confidence in the policy framework that has been established by President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali. We are conscious that when investors are going to expand or they are going to bring foreign direct investments, new companies coming in, one of the things that are required is political stability and predictability as it relates to fairness and justice in a country. Today we see another private investor, a company that has worked with us as a nation over thirty-two (32) years weather the storm and have said we are expanding and we are bringing in new partners so that we can be properly positioned for Guyana’s infrastructural development and modernization that is taking place. So welcome Foton,” he said.
Minister Edghill also outlined his observation of greater quality of vehicles being offered to the Guyanese consumers through these partnerships that are behind established.
Further, he emphasised the importance of weight limit compliance by Public and Private entities who will purchase the vehicles that have a 12 tonnes per axle weight limit.
Foton Motor is one of the leading global manufacturers of commercial vehicles.
