[www.inewsguyana.com] – Royston Winter of Lethem was refused bail by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on Tuesday (December 24) for trafficking narcotics.

The defendant, a construction worker denied the allegation which detailed that on December 23 at Tabatinga Mountain, he had in his possession 25 grammes of cannabis sativa (marijuana) for the purpose of trafficking.

Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru told the Court that on the day in question police (on foot patrol) saw the defendant looking suspicious and approached him. A search was carried out and the prohibited substance was found in his hand.

A further search was carried out and a transparent plastic bag, also containing leaves, seeds and stem was found in his pocket.

Mangru objected to the pretrial liberty stating that there was no special reason provided by the defendant for him to be granted bail.

Winter was remanded to prison and the matter was transferred to Lethem Magistrate court for March 3.
